The highly anticipated three-day event, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, was officially opened on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Organised by the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) in collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), the Expo was held under the theme “Innovate, Transform, Sustain: Driving Growth in Ghana’s Horticultural Sector.”

It brought together government officials, exporters, agribusiness leaders, and financial institutions from across Africa to explore and reposition horticulture as a major engine of economic diversification, job creation, and export growth.

The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, who officially opened the Expo, delivered a powerful keynote address, stressing the importance of transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector with horticulture at its core.

“Our goal is not just food security, but economic security through agricultur… Let us grow Ghana one fruit, one field, and one future at a time,” President Mahama declared.

He announced a new plan to revitalise the sector through a reinvigorated Feed Ghana Initiative, to be implemented between 2025 and 2028, and confirmed that the 24-Hour Economy policy would take effect from July 1, with ports in Takoradi and Tema operating uninterrupted to improve efficiency and logistics for exporters.

President Mahama further emphasised that the sector’s reform is not just a technical obligation but a national moral duty, stating, “Horticulture is not an afterthought. It is central to our vision of national economic transformation.”

Stakeholders urge action amidst opportunities

FAGE President Davies Korboe echoed the President’s call to action and described the Expo as a “grand orchestra of ideas and enterprise.”

He pointed out that Ghana continues to face post-harvest losses exceeding 30% and underperformance in crop yields compared to global standards.
